New Year, New Interiors

Is your home looking a bit bare without all the festive cheer?

After long winter months spent hiding indoors and bundling up for fleeting trips around the block, the prospect of warmer temperatures has everyone here at Furnish & Fettle desperate to get back into nature. As the days get longer and we finally start to see those purple and yellow crocuses start peeking out from the ground, we adore designing spaces that blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors—somewhere soaked in natural light and filled with fresh air.

With spring around the corner, it’s time to start a new project. It’s always exciting when a new season arrives and it’s time to update your home decor trends. A new year begins and just like you’d refresh your wardrobe, with new accessories, maybe some new shoes or a coat, your interiors can also benefit from a bit of a refresh.

Unsurprisingly, the predicted trends to watch for in 2022 are all about embracing our newfound freedom and re-engaging with the world around us. Patterns are reflecting more natural shapes and forms and colours are bolder, braver, and more exciting. This has also been reflected by global colour authority, Pantone, who, for its 2022 colour of the year, has for the first time, created a brand-new shade: Pantone Very Peri, a vibrant periwinkle blue with violet-red undertones.

Our homes are a constantly evolving mix of all the things we love – as they should be. So as with new season fashion trends, it’s the new emerging home decor trends that tempt us to update our homes – rather than change them entirely. And Furnish & Fettle are here to help! We help people love their homes, whether you’re updating a few little furnishes, fully renovating or just in need of a few fettles, our friendly team of designers are here to guide you.

Let’s look at some of the emerging trends coming into our homes in 2022…

Add a Splash of Colour

For tired-looking spaces in need of rejuvenation, why not add a fresh lick of paint. From clean white and pale pastel shades, to warm and earthy neutrals – by introducing a new colourway, the space will feel brand new. However, in order to make a noticeable difference, you don’t need to re-paint all four walls- just update one wall, to enhance the look and feel of the room.

If you’re struggling with selecting shades or concerned about colour combinations, why not book in with us in store, or have us to come to your home. As a little Green and Paint and Paper Library stockist, we offer paint consultations to help you decorate your home with confidence.

Introduce A New Focal Point

Every room has a focal point; it draws in the eye and sets the tone for the whole space. For example, in the bedroom, the bed typically dominates the space – in order to give your interior a new look, switch up the headboard for something new, or perhaps reupholster the existing design to breathe a new lease of life into the room.

Here at Furnish & Fettle, we have thousands of fabrics to choose from and love to breath life into older items through re-upholstering. Equally, we love to show clients new and exciting products that we think would fit in seamlessly into your home. If you’re not sure where to start, or, would like to see if we stock the original fabric of your item so you can replace it like-for-like, book one of thirty minute complimentary fabric consolations.

Line The Living Room With New Curtains or Hang A Mirror In The Hallway

Another way to uplift a space without undertaking major renovation work is to replace your window treatments – from clean shutters to vibrant curtains, a well-placed window dressing can alter the dynamic of a space. A change of curtain will transform the entire room, especially if they are a bold print, rich colour and luxuriously fall to the ground.

Custom window treatments are a long-term investment that will add value to your home. They are not inexpensive, but they will save you money and headaches down the road. Our curtains and blinds are all handmade and we ensure to include a professional check-measure and fitting services alongside this.

Hallways look drab in murky January with limited natural sunlight, wet wellie prints all over the floor and coats piled high on top of one another. To add new life to the entrance hall, add a giant mirror – the reflective qualities will make the walkway appear bigger and push light from another room into the little space. In all three of our showrooms, we have a beautiful collection or mirrors and other home furnishings ready to take home with you the same day.

Change The Dining Room Table Chairs

Whether you are upholstering, paint or polishing, or having new and bespoke, new chairs to your dining room will create an entirely new impact on your space. You don’t need to change the table, the décor colour or any other furniture – simply the chairs.

It may sound trivial, but our designers take great care and joy when working with clients on a set f bespoke designing chairs. The possibilities to add details and touches you may not have otherwise thought of, are endless. The same for all our furniture pieces, we have beautiful one of kind items across our stores whether you’re thinking of going for it with the dining chairs, or you don’t quite feel ready to take splurge, we have sofa’s, ottomans, occasional chairs, stool and dining chairs ready to add to your room set.

Experiment With Soft Furnishings

An easy way to refresh a space is to switch up our everyday decorative items. Soft furnishings are the perfect way to convey personal style. Swapping out items such as blankets or cushions in one colour for another, can impact the entire home and mood of the room and the people living in it.

As trends change, so do our individual tastes and preferences – and so do our showrooms! Our more regular clients often tell us they feel like they’re coming into a new store every other week, and that’s what we want! We want you to see the choice and plethora of options interior design can bring you whether you’re working with us on a bespoke design project or visiting us to pick up some of the beautiful items we have arriving in to our warehouse from around the world.

Come and make your house a home with Furnish & Fettle – 2022 is the perfect time to start thinking about your interior decorating plans for year.
